The ARTISTS HANDBOOK SERIES - PAINTING IN WATERCOLOUR
PAINTING IN WATERCOLOUR is essential reference for all home artists. Part of a new multi-volume practical art series, it has been purpose-planned by a leading exponent in the field to enable even the complete amateur to take up the art and achieve creditable, attractive results. A brief introduction places the history of watercolour in perspective and demonstrates why the subject is so popular today. This is followed by detailed coverage of materials and equipment. Not only does this show what is available and how to choose what you will need; it also covers such basic areas as organizing the home studio, working in the field and the uses of a sketch book.
The core of the book is the section on Tenets and Techniques and the four chapters on the various subject areas - Figure, Landscape, Portrait and Still Life. Fully illustrated throughout with finished paintings, detailed diagrams, close-up examples of how the various effects are achieved and step-by-step photographs, the text covers basic theory and essential techniques - both in isolation and in the practical context of picture-making - in all the various accepted methods of working. A final chapter shows you how to make the best of your finished work and there is a full glossary of essential artistic terms. (Frontflap of book – 1985 BCA edition) |
